In epidemiological week (EW) 51, 732 probable cases of dengue were reported in the Dominican Republic, 24% are concentrated in the province of Santiago, 14% come from Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata with 6%. In the last 4 weeks (EW 48-51) 3,372 probable cases were reported. In this same period, 1,547 samples were processed, the positivity of the samples is 17%, in which the circulation of serotypes 1, 2 and 3 of the dengue virus has been identified, with serotype 3 predominating (70%). The provinces with the highest cumulative incidence per 100,000 inhabitants are: Barahona (513.99), María Trinidad Sánchez (513.82), San José de Ocoa (469.71) and Espaillat 486.84.

Malaria - Dominican Republic

In this epidemiological week 45, three cases of malaria were confirmed in the Dominican Republic, one man and two women, from the Azua outbreak. During the last four weeks (EW 42 to EW 45) 27 cases were confirmed. Geographically, the cases come from the focus of: San Juan (17 cases), Azua (9 cases) and Pedernales (1 case). The accumulated incidence until this week is 2.17 per 100,000 inhabitants, which represents a reduction of 29% compared to the same period in 2022. So far this year, 215 cases have been reported.

Cholera - Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic faces a new outbreak of cholera in the province of Barahona. The Ministry of Public Health has confirmed 16 cases among 45 patients with diarrheal symptoms treated at the Jaime Mota Hospital and the Primary Health Care Units (UNAP) in Bahoruco and La Ciénega. These cases include Haitian and Dominican citizens, reflecting the diversity of the affected population. The outbreak has been attributed to the consumption of contaminated water, mainly affecting residents of La Ciénega.
